Gorgeous 19th century English sterling Victorian locket with date marks for Chester 1882. Beautiful and intricate nouveau or roccoco style organic design. Wonderful dark patina that only old silver can get. Minor dent to front left side of locket near hinge (can sort of see the hint of it in the photo) - not very noticeable. Top ring used to attach locket to book chain (not included). Reverse has marks for Sterling silver and Chester 1882. Also makers mark "P.P & ?" [? is maybe O, C, or G] in rectangle. Very bottom of locket has 2 small slits in silver along what looks like a seam. Very good condition for age and very wearable.
The oval part of the locket measures 1 1/4" across, and is 1 5/8" long. It is about 5/16" thick. The bale is about 5/8" long. The ring on top is 11/16" in diameter.
