Rare and unusual abstract Sterling green agate modernist pin by Theodor Fahrner (Germany), circa 1960s. The brooch measures 1 3/4" across and 1 7/8" tall, and the stone protrudes about 3/8" from the back of the piece. The custom cut medium green colored stone is shaped like a gum drop, and believed to be some type of agate. The dimensional design consists of two concentric rings separated by a gap, bisected by a line of silver from north to south. The surface of the silver comprising the rings is texturized and reminds me of the surface of the moon. The reverse is signed: TF in a circle (Fahrner hallmark) and 925 (for Sterling silver). The piece is in excellent condition.

Theodor Fahrner is Germany's best known jewelry manufacturer, and the jewelry is highly collectible. Fahrner jewelry was made from about 1900 to 1970, and this brooch is from the last period of their production. Examples of Fahrner jewelry can be found in many books, especially the fabulous book devoted to Fahrner jewelry, Theodor Fahrner Jewelry... Between Avant Garde and Tradition. Modernist Fahrner jewelry is rarely found in the market place. Another modernist Fahrner brooch is pictured in the book "Warman's Jewelry 3rd Edition" by Christie Romero.
