This is a fine and rare hammered Sterling butter pick (?) by Shreve (San Francisco). I believe is the Norman Hammered pattern, which was one of 5 patterns they patented in 1909 when they entered the flatware business. Shreve is well known for these Arts & Crafts hammered patterns which are a welcome change from their more traditional 19th century patterns. This butter pick is 5 5/8" long and 1/2" across. It measures about 1 3/4" from the point where the handle begins to widen (then twist) to the tip of the "screw". The handle exhibits hammer marks on the surface which I tried to capture in one of the additional photos. There is an etched S monogram on the handle. There are some light surface scratches from use, but overall the piece is in very good condition. The back is marked: STERLING SHREVE&CO. Please ask if you have more specific questions about condition.

Additional photos: Close up of hammering, Marks.
