Wonderful set of three handmade Sterling silver hammered Arts & Crafts teaspoons in the Round pattern by Porter Blanchard. Each measures 6 1/4" long, and is quite heavy. There are visible hammering marks on the front of the handle and the back of the bowl. The backs are signed: PORTER BLANCHARD HANDMADE STERLING. There are some light surface scratches and wear marks from use, but overall, the spoons are in very good condition and could use a cleaning. Please ask if you have any specific questions as I am not a metalware expert (I just love hammered sterling). This set goes well with my other set of 3 Blanchard teaspoons, but they are not identical (they have different marks and the form is ever so slightly different if you look at them side by side).
Porter Blanchard (1866-1973) made wonderful handwrought Arts & Crafts silver in his studio in Burbank, CA, with retail locations near Hollywood agents and stars. He eventually became known as the "silversmith to the stars". His work is well known and celebrated among collectors of Arts & Crafts silver. He was a member of the Boston Society of Arts & Crafts, and was elected a Medalist (the society's highest rank) in 1944. He helped found the Arts & Crafts Society of Southern California in 1924, but unfortunately it did not survive past 1930. Blanchard hails from a long line of well-known silversmiths including: George P Blanchard (his father), Richard Blanchard (his brother), and Allan Adler (his son).
